Nokia Lumia 610 NFC

Nokia announced its first NFC enabled Windows Phone. An NFC version of its Lumia 610, the most affordable smartphone in the Lumia range.

Doing general things, Windows 7.5 O.S. runs very fluidly on this phone with a 1-core 800 Mhz processor and 256 MB of RAM.

Cool glossy colorful plastic (light) for a younger audience.

Nokia didn’t wait for Windows Phone 8 O.S. with full NFC functionality built-in.
But Nokia wanted NFC as quickly as possible available in a low entry handset for the mass.
Nokia did this by adding an NFC software stack on top of the Windows Phone version 7.5.

It also has all the necessary hardware and software for NFC payment and ticketing solutions, (SWP / secure element on SIM).
The Lumia 610 NFC has been certified for contactless payments both with MasterCard PayPass, and with Visa payWave.
Customers get the same benefits and liability guarantees as if they were using a credit card.
The NFC antenna is on the back of the phone, to the right of the camera.

Orange (France probably) will be the first operator to bring the new Nokia Lumia 610 NFC to the market. Expected early in the third quarter.
The handset will also be available to other operators.

Update May; Nokia said it “hopes” to ship the NFC version of the phone to operators globally.
“We wanted to promote the NFC ecosystem, and we believe the Lumia 610 would be a success because it’s an affordable device addressing young people,” Andrea Bacioccola, lead program manager for NFC in Nokia’s Windows Phone program, told NFC Times. “It will be available for operators all around the world.” (source; nfctimes.com)

Update sept.’12; Available at Orange Spain.
