Embedded secure element ?

Some websites write about an embedded secure element in the BlackBerry Bold 9900. The NFCmanager in RIM device API talks about an embedded secure element and SIM-based secure element. Unfortunately, I find no first-hand information about an embedded secure element in the 9900. You know why I have doubts? Mastercard calls the BlackBerry Bold 9900 a SWP Mobile Phone and the Nexus S with embedded element and SWP a Mobile Phone with embedded element. So why are those two phones placed in a different certification category?

Certification !

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 received mobile payments certification from MasterCard. It is the second certified NFC phone. The Google Nexus S was the first to be certified.

update jan.10; Certified for VISA PayWave

Payments with the BlackBerry Bold 9900

Etisalat, largest telco of the United Arab Emirates, announced the introduction of NFC payments with Mobile Phones. They use a MasterCard PayPass application on the SIM card of the Mobile Phones. First in the BlackBerry Bold 9900. Later in other NFC Phones. The intention is to start before the end of 2011.

update Jan.2012; Turkcell and Research In Motion announced the commercial availability of an NFC mobile wallet application, the Turkcell Cep-T Cüzdan, for BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900 smartphone customers in Turkey.
The power of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 combined with the Turkcell Cep-T Cüzdan application enables Turkcell customers to enjoy making payments in a simple, easy, safe and convenient way by simply tapping their NFC-enabled BlackBerry Bold 9900 against a MasterCard PayPass™ reader in shops, retail outlets, cafes and restaurants across Turkey. In addition, Turkcell customers travelling abroad will also be able make payments in the same way .
